What would the tourist’s Copenhagen be without landmarks like Amalienborg, the romantic Rosenborg in Kongens Have, not to speak of Christiansborg Palace, the stately centre of the capital? And can one imagine Royal northern Zealand without Kronborg – Hamlet’s ‘castle of Elsinore’ and a World Heritage monument?
Palaces and gardens make up an important part of the tourist’s experience of Copenhagen, indeed of the whole of Denmark. Many of the palaces and castles are open to visitors, and the gardens offer opportunities for taking a break among all the impressions.
The Agency for Palaces and Cultural Properties presents Kronborg all year round and invites the public into Fredensborg Palace in July. At Christiansborg you can visit the Royal Reception Rooms. where the Queen hosts presidents and royalty, the ruins of Absalon’s Castle and Christiansborg Palace Chapel. We also arrange guided tours of Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg, which boasts one of Denmark’s most beautiful Rococo halls and an exquisite collection of Flora Danica porcelain.

Other castles and palaces open to visitors
In the case of other castles and palaces, the Agency for Palaces and Properties is responsible for the actual building, while the institution that uses the building on a daily basis services visitors.
